Thai Binh Geography and Natural Resources

Thai Binh locates in the Hong (Red) river delta. The province is close to the northern focus economic triangle Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh ( Quang Ninh Travel )and it is also a commercial exchange gate between Hai Phong, Quang Ninh and coastal provinces across the country.

Covering an area of 1,542.24 km2, Thai Binh makes up 0.5 percent of total area of Vietnam. The province borders on the Gulf of Tonkin in the east, Nam Dinh and Ha Nam provinces in the west and southwest and Hai Duong, Hung Yen ( Huong Yen Travel )and Hai Phong City in the north.

The province is surrounded by a close system of seas and rivers with coastal line of more than 50 km long, which is an advantageous environment for the development of trade on sea and tourism.

Thai Binh has 1 city and 7 districts divided into 284 communes, wards and towns.

Locating on the edge of the tropical climatic zone, Thai Binh has annual average temperature of 23 - 240C, average rainfall of between 1,400 mm and 1,800 mm and humidity of about 85-90 percent. From May to the end of October, it is always rainy and hot while the weather from November to April next year is dry.

Thai Binh Land

Thai Binh possesses fertile land. The convenient irrigational system has partly helped build up paddy fields yielding 14-15 tons/ha.

Total natural land across the province is 153,596 ha, of which 94,187 ha is under cultivation. Farmers can cultivate 3-4 crops in one year. Soil in Thai Binh is also good for the plantation of foodstuff and industrial plants of short life, tropical fruit trees, flowers, etc.

Possessing three kinds of water, namely salty water (covering 17 km2), brackish water (covering about 20,705 ha) and fresh water (covering 9,256 ha), Thai Binh has high potential for aquatic products.

Thai Binh Minerals

In Thai Binh exists Tien Hai Gas Mine reaching annual average exploitation output of tens millions of cubic meters used to make porcelain products, glass-wear, tile, white cement, etc. In 2003, the state-run oil and gas corporation PetroVietnam exploded offshore in preparations for exploitation of gas offshore Gulf of Tonkin.

Tien Hai mineral water mine is at the depth of 450 meters with reserve of about 12 million m3. Tien Hai mineral water is highly appreciated by both domestic and foreign consumers.

Recently, a mine of hot water was discovered in Duyen Hai commune, Hung Ha district at the depth of 50 meters (hot water of 570C) and at the depth of 178 meters (hot water of 720C).

Thai Binh Electricity


Thai Binh is among provinces and cites ranking first in the development of electricity system. 100 percent of communes in Thai Binh is provided with electricity and 98 percent of rural households are accessed to electricity. The improved system of electricity in Thai Binh province can satisfy demand for electricity in years ahead.

Thai Binh Drainage


The province has been investing in construction of plants supplying pure and safe water. The water plant in Thai Binh city provides about 30,000 m3/day. In towns and districts, water plants are being built. Some communes have had small-scaled water plants and many households in the province have been approached to pure water extracted from drilling well Unicef.

Thai Binh Posts and Telecommunication

The system of posts and telecommunication in Thai Binh has been improved towards increasing scales and modernizing all fields. Currently, in all centers of districts, city and economic sub-regions, digital switchboards have been installed. 100 percent of communes have had telephones. Postage services like express, 1080, attorney postage, post savings, messages, mobile cards, the Internet, etc., are served well, safely and effectively.

Thai Binh Finance and Banking


The provincial state bank undertakes the function of state management of money and banking while credit branches, including Incombank branch, BIDV branch, Agribank branch, the central people`s credit fund branch and 76 local people`s credit funds, conduct trade in money and provide banking services.

Thai Binh Training and Education Establishments


In Thai Binh, there exists the Medical University, the Teacher`s College, the Quynh Coi Agriculture Middle School, vocational centers, etc. Vocational schools in the province are being improved to satisfy the process of socio-economic development in the province.

Thai Binh Geography

Belongs to the Red River Delta, Thai Binh is a granary of North Vietnam ( North Vietnam tour ). The province is surrounded by Hai Duong Province and Hai Phong City on the north, Ha Nam and Hung Yen provinces on the west, East Sea on the east and Nam Dinh Province on the south.

Three faces of Thai Binh are Red, Luoc and Hoa rivers, and one face is 53km seaside and no any mountain.

The subsequent fertile soil was excellent for growing grains, especially rice. Thai Binh rice is acknowledged as the best strain in the North of Vietnam. There are 200 types of aquaculture and 2,500 kinds of rare birds, too.

Climate: On monsoon tropical region, Thai Binh has cold winter (from November to April) and hot summer (from May to October). Annual average temperature is 23.5�C, the lowest temperature is 4?C and the highest one is 38�C. Average rainfall is from 1.400mm to 1.800mm.

Thai Binh Tourism

Due to its richness of aquatic products and grains, locals here have created a number of local specialties from their natural materials; among of these the most famous are Canh Ca Quynh Coi (Quynh Coi fish soup) and cay cake.

Coming to Thai Binh, tourists enjoy visiting inshore sandbanks where rare birds stops, seeing natural beauty in mangrove forest, swimming in Dong Chau Beach, and joining interesting traditional festivals. Well-known culture constructions are Dong Bang, Tien La temples, and Keo Pagoda. There are many valuable votive objects and beautiful three-storey bell tower in Keo Pagoda. Various flowers and fruits in Bach Thuan Garden Village also attract many visitors every year.

This province is rich of traditional handicraft villages like weave fabric in Phuong La, mat weave in Hoi, silver carve in Dong Xam, copper casting in An Long, lace embroider in Minh Lang, cay cake making in Nguyen Xa.

Visitors are able to enjoy many folk songs, festival games in traditional festivals such as water puppet in Nguyen Xa, cheo song in Khuoc, fish and duck catching, rice cooking competition and squib contests.

Thai Binh Transportation

Thai Binh City is 110km from Hanoi, 70km from Haiphong, 18km from Nam Dinh. There are Tan De, Thai Binh, and Trieu Duong bridges. National Highway No.10 connects Thai Binh, Haiphong and Nam Dinh and National Highway No.39 links the province to Hung Yen.

.Keo pagoda

Keo Pagoda Festival, Thai Binh Vietnam, is held every year in Vu Nhat commune in Thai Binh province. This is one of the foremost of the religious festivals in Vietnam and is held in honor of a Buddhist monk Duong Khong Lo who is said to have cured King Le Thanh Tong of a terrible illness with his magical powers. Every year the people of the commune offer prayer at the Keo Pagoda which was built in the 17th Century in honor of the monk.

Keo Pagoda Festival in Vietnam is held from the 13th to 15th of the ninth lunar month annually, 100 days after the death of the Buddhist monk Duong Khong Lo. As with all other Vietnam festivals & events, Keo Pagoda Festival in Thai Binh Vietnam also begins with a procession to remind people of the anniversary of the Buddhist monk. This is followed by a boat race and a literary recital competition during the day. The night is welcomed by the trumpet and drum competition.

The second day’s ceremony of the Keo Pagoda Festival, Thai Binh Vietnam also begins with a procession with a carriage pulled by a red and white horse. This is accompanied by 8 flag bearers and 42 men in their tradition verve. A ceremony is held in the Gia Roi temple in the later half of the day. The final day’s ceremony includes more of entertainment and games like duck catching, rice cooking competition and firecracker hurling competition.

Keo Pagoda Festival, Thai Binh Vietnam is a three days festival celebrating the traditional customs and religious ceremonies of Vietnam.
