The Socialist Republic of Vietnam ( Vietnam travel destinations )is a small country in Southeast Asia ( Southeast Asia tours )that borders the People's Republic of China ( China tours )to the north, Laos to the northwest and Cambodia to the southwest. To the country's east lies the South China Sea. With a population of approximately 85 million, Vietnam is one of the most densely populated nations in Southeast Asia. One of its largest cities is Ho Chi Minh City (previously known as Saigon).Located in the Mekong Delta ( Mekong delta travel )the Ho Chi Minh City is the economic capital of this charming country.
The city that was formerly known as Saigon is home to more than 7 million people and it’s confusing in its twin identities as that of a financial hub and as the centre of art and culture. Excellent examples of colonial architecture to exquisitely carved and paneled traditional pagodas- you will find a harmonious meeting of the Orient with the Occident in Ho Chi Min City. Indeed it is the one city where “the twain” does meet!
Tourism in Ho Chi Minh City throws up a variety of options. The city boasts of a number of intricately carved pagodas which are fascinating even to the not-very-spiritually-inclined average tourist. A lot of these pagodas are concentrated in Cholon, the Chinese district of Ho Chi Minh City. One of these pagodas is the Phuoc An Hoi Quan Pagoda. The Pagoda was built in 1902 by the Fujian Chinese community. It is beautifully ornamented and is often full of devotees. The pagoda ( Japanese Covered Bridge Pagoda in Hoi An ) has beautiful carvings on the walls, elaborate brass artifacts and the smell of unique coils of incense fills every corner. These incense coils are unique to this part of the world as they are very long coils are hung from the ceiling. It is said that these coils can burn for an entire month. Located in a quite corner of a residential area this temple seems rather humble at first sight and impressive when you have seen all of it.
The temple is open from 7 in the morning to 5:30 in the evening. |
