Mariamman Hindu Temple, devoted to the Hindu Goddess Mariamman, provides you a glimpse of Southern India’s exoticism in Ho Chi Minh City ( President Ho Chi MInh Mausoleum )
Erected towards the end of the 19th century, this spectacular Hindu Temple is also worshiped by many non-Hindus residing in Saigon.
A common belief among the locals is that, the Hindu goddess Mariamman has miraculous powers.
Originally constructed by the Tamils hailing from Pondicherry with a raja goopuram, the Mariamman Hindu Temple is regarded as a sacred site by many Vietnamese and Chinese ( China tours )
The architectural design of this temple is based on the principles of temple building, followed in any other ancient (Hoa Lu Ancient citadel )Hindu temples in India. A centrally located huge hall (mandapam) and inner and outer circumferences characterize the Mariamman Hindu Temple in Ho Chi Minh City.
Two other Hindu temples namely Sri Thendayutthapani Temple and Sunbramaniar Temple stand in close proximity to the Mariamman Temple.
Numerous multicolored ‘vahanas’ for ‘utsava murthis’ adorn the interior of the temple. However it can’t be definitely said if these colorful ‘vahanas’ were created in Vietnam by the Indian artisans or brought in from India. |
