Local sculptors are preparing to make the world’s biggest jade Buddha statue weighing 15 tonnes in two or three years from the largest jade boulder.
The 35 tonnes jade boulder, worth $1.45 million and imported from Myanmar, is 3 metres high, 2.3 metres wide and 2.4 metres thick, according to sculptor Dao Trong Cuong, the one in charge of the project.
Cuong and some local craftsmen will go to the native land of Buddhism, India and Nepal, to learn carefully about the genuine Buddha statues before sculpturing the work, Cuong said.
